Sixth Form Dress Code

Sixth Form students are expected to dress in formal business attire at all times. Clothing should reflect the standards of a professional working environment, and students are expected to present themselves in a smart and appropriate manner throughout the school day.

Permitted Business Dress

  • Formal business suit (skirt or trousers)
    • Skirts must be knee length
    • Trousers must be full length
  • Jilbab
  • Hijab
  • Formal business shirt and tie
  • Blouse or smart top
  • Smart round neck or V-neck jumper (worn with a shirt or blouse)
  • Smart formal shoes (modest heel permitted)
  • Lanyard with identity card (must be worn at all times)

The following items are not acceptable:

  • Casual trousers (e.g. combat trousers, tracksuits, leggings)
  • Casual tops (e.g. T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, fleeces, tracksuit tops)
  • Casual footwear (e.g. trainers, pumps, canvas shoes)
  • White socks
  • Denim or leather trousers, shirts, blouses or skirts
  • Shorts, cropped trousers, or tight/narrow-legged trousers
  • Sportswear
  • Revealing clothing
  • Patterns or shapes cut into hair or eyebrows
  • Brightly coloured hair
  • Overly conspicuous jewellery (e.g. oversized earrings or necklaces)
  • Visible tattoos and body piercings

 Appearance and Presentation

Sixth Form students may wear natural-looking make-up and subtle jewellery. The academy reserves the right to make final judgements on what is considered appropriate.

Compliance

Students who do not meet the dress code expectations may be sent home. Parents or carers will be contacted on the first occasion. For any subsequent breaches, students will be required to return home to change.

Mobile Devices

Sixth Form students may bring mobile phones, iPads, laptops and similar devices into the academy. However, these may only be used in designated areas. If a student is found using such devices outside of designated areas, the item will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day. Repeated breaches will be managed in line with Sixth Form behaviour procedures, and a meeting will be held with the Head of Sixth Form.

Guidance

This policy cannot cover every possible scenario. If students are unsure whether an item of clothing is appropriate, they should check with the Head of Sixth Form before making a purchase.
